On November 8, 2018, Catholic dioceses throughout Pennsylvania announced that they were creating Compensation Programs to provide financial assistance to survivors of child sexual abuse. The Programs may be appealing to victims who have immediate financial needs or those who do not wish to pursue litigation.
What to Expect
The Programs will be administered by the individual dioceses and each Program will have different guidelines and requirements. The Programs are scheduled to process claims as early as January 2019. A Claims Administrator will serve in a capacity similar to a judge and jury and make determinations regarding the value of each individual claim. Evidence supporting each claim can be presented to the Claims Administrator in a procedure similar to an arbitration.
